Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere X495 PTO safety doesnt operate, john deere x495, pto safety

Question
I purchased a John Deere X495.  I can engage the pto on the mower deck while driving either forward or in reverse.  Nor does it shut down when I change from moving forward to reverse.  To correct this, what should I check?

Answer
Hello David:

>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers X495 and Click Find. Then Select your Model from the Search Results Area. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. *You can Drag the View Windows for Better Viewing.*
>>From your Description it Sounds like the Reverse Sense Switch is Bad or the PTO Switch is Bad.
>>Disconnect the Reverse Sense Switch and Jumper Between the Wires of the Harness. The Engine should Quit when you do this. If it Does, then the Reverse Sense Switch is Bad. If it Does Not, then the PTO Switch is Bad.
>>To Check Any of the Safety Switches on this Unit;
>>Use a Multimeter and Check the Continuity of the Switch. The Meter should Show when the Contacts are Closed and Open. When the Switch is Engaged (Contacts Closed) the Meter will Swing All the Way Over  and Swing Back to the Rest Point when the Switch is Not Engaged (Contacts Open).
>>Please, Do Not Hesitate, If you Hit a Snag, if I Missed Something or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
