Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): starter, hp engines, appropriate boxes

Question
The best & easiest way to replace the starter on a 16 hp twin cyl. Onan engine. It is on a 446 Ingersoll garden tractor.  Do you have to remove motor from frame? Thanks.

Answer
Hello Bill:

>>I Usually Remove the Mounting Bolts and Turn the Engine Enough to Allow for Easy Removal of the Starter.
>>The Starter Bolts on Some of these 16 & 18 HP Engines have the Starter Bolts that are Horizontal and 1 is Located Slightly Under the Flywheel. It can be Removed without Removing the Flywheel.
>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine at this Site Addy; http://www.briggsandstratton.com/maint_repair/manual_and_more/doclist.aspx?categ... and Enter the Model Numbers (XXXXXX) and the First 4 Type Numbers (XXXX) in the Appropriate Boxes and Click GO. Then Select Download PDF.
