Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): oil leak, trouble shooting guide, crankcase breather

Question
I have a 5 hp tecumseh snowblower motor that is blowing oil out of a rubber tube that is attached to the top side of the moter.  the motor runs fine until oil is depleted then stalls.  when refilled it will run again and continue to blow oil out of this tube.  would it be cheaper to replace with a new motor for around $200.00 or fix this one at a repair facility?

Answer
Hello Cliff:

>>From you Description it Sounds like the Crankcase Breather/Vent is Stuck and Requires Cleaning or the Rings are Worn Out/Frozen to the Piston and the when the Block Expands Past the Expansion Point of the Rings and the Compression Enters the Crankcase and Pushes the Oil Out the Crankcase Breather/Vent.
>>I Suggest you Clean the Crankcase Breather/Vent First. The Rubber Tube you Described should be Attached to the Crankcase Breather/Vent.
>>If you Clean the Crankcase Breather and the Engine is Still Blowing Oil from the Tube, then Replace the Engine. I cannot Rebuild a Small Engine for the Price you Listed.
>>Since this is a Tecumseh Engine, I have a PDF Site Addy that May Assist you Also. http://www.tecumsehpower.com/CustomerService/BSI.pdf  .  This Site Addy; http://www.outdoordistributors.com/Tecumseh/tmain.html has a Link to a PDF Trouble-Shooting Guide.
