Answer
Hello Bill:

>>Are you Replacing the Bushings and Both the Worm and Bevel/Ring (Brass) Gear when you are Doing this Repair. All of these Items should be Replaced as a Set.
>>I have Found that when this Starts Happening, you Usually have Bad Bearings/Bushings, Worm Gear and the Brass Bevel/Ring Gear.
>>Be Sure to Check the Shaft the Worm Gear is Attached to also. It May be Bent and Require Replacing also.
>>You can View a Breakdown of this Unit at this Site Addy; http://www.jackssmallengines.net/parts.asp and Select Shop Online Parts Look Up. The Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM (Ariens) and Enter the Model Numbers (Example: 924050). Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Select the Sectional File. Now you can View the Section of the Mower that Pertains to this Repair.
>>I Used the 924050-027001 Model Unit for Reference Purposes.
The Bushings are Numbers 3, 8 and 9 in the Breakdown for the 24" Unit. Using this Breakdown the Components that should be Replaced as a Set are 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 14.
>>I Use the White Lith Grease for Assembly Purposes Only. I Suggest you Use 80W90 Gear Lube for Lubrication of the Gearbox.
>>Please, Do Not Hesitate, If you Hit a Snag, if I Missed Something or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
