Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): oil in combustion chamber, combustion chamber, excessive oil

Question
I have an older (2001 about..) Tecumseh 10HP engine on a chipper.   I laid the machine on it's side to transport it, and now it won't start. I'm guessing some oil leaked into the chamber thru valves..  what's the process?.. Thanks much.

Answer
Will it turn over? If there is oil in the chamber it may not. Take the spark plug out, move the plug wire away from the plug hole (if it arcs it make cause a fire!)and crank the engine over. You can also spray a little carb cleaner in the hole and crank it. Any excess will be blown out.Check for excessive oil on the plug. Again, be sure the plug wire is out of the way and the ignition switch is off. Replace the plug and try to start without choking it. If i this doesn't work, we'll go farther.
Thanks,
