Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): go kart help, clutch problems, alighnment

hello, i have a used kart with #35 chain and max torque 13tooth clutch sprocets are 72,78,82 tooth got it used but went to replace clutch with new one now chain keeps popin off slack alighnment look good should clutch be even number also?? any idea or help would be appreciated...
