Question
Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Troy Bilt Snow Thrower 24 Storm 2410, troy bilt snow thrower, gasket seal
Troy Bilt Snow Thrower
Eric,
Recently purchased a refurbed Troy Bilt Snow Thrower 24" Storm 2410 from Lowes used one storm approx 1 hr run time.
The exhaust was discharging white smoke so I added oil (might have over filled due to lack of light outside)

Now I have oil seaping to the top of the engine and spitting through the exhaust.

The download able manual from the Troy Bilt website doesn't offer much illustration about the engine block so not sure where a leaking gasket/seal/bolt could be

Hate the have to lug it back to Lowes prior to attempting to fix myself (if not to major)

Any suggestions?

Answer
I'm guessing the oil level is too full.  This is the most common reason oil comes out the exhaust.

Check the oil level and also smell the oil.  If the oil smells like gasoline the carburetor may have leaked gas into the engine causing the oil to thin.  If the oil smells like gas, you will need to drain and refill the oil, about 1/2 a quart of oil fills the engine.

If the blower has a fuel shut-off valve, use it to prevent gas from leaking into the oil.

You may have to remove the muffler and soak in parts cleaner to remove the excess oil that is in the muffler.

Let me know if the oil level is too high and if the oil smells like gasoline.
