Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 18 hp Briggs, briggs and stratton, hp briggs

I have a 18 hp B & S  model422447, bought May 2003 to replace engine in white mower.  Had to take old generator ring from old engine and install in new engine.  Not enough amps in new one for the mower. Worked ok till this past summer.  It does not charge enough now to keep battery up.
I have to charge battery every third time I mow.   Any ideas?      Jim

Have you checked the output of the alternator?  Does your system have an external regulator?  Maybe the regulator is bad.

Go to the Briggs and Stratton website.  Click on "Customer Support".  Click on any question.  A new page will open and allow you to enter a search quarry.  Enter "Alternaor" or "Alternorator Replacement" and this will link you to alternator pages.
