Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ariens Snowthrower, worm gear, snowthrower

Question
I have a 10 year old Ariens ST824 snowthrower.  The impeller turns but the augers do not.  One shear pin was broken and I replaced it but it did not help.  I do not believe there is an issue with frozen parts as my garage is above freezing.  Could it be the worm gear?  If so, how difficult is it to repair?  Thanks for any help you can offer.

Answer
Hello Kevin:

From your Description it Sounds like you Damaged Either the Ring Gear or the Pinion/Worm Gear. You can View a Breakdown of the Mower at this Site Addy; http://www.jackssmallengines.net/parts.asp and Select Shop Online Parts Look Up. The Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM (Ariens) and Enter the Model Numbers. Example: 924081-000101. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area.Select the Sectional File. Now you can View the Section of the Mower that Pertains to this Repair. The Auger Assy has to be Removed from the Auger Housing. Then Using the Breakdown as a Guide you can Disassemble the Auger Drive Gear Box. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Unit, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
