Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Snow Thrower, bearing seperator, craftsman snow thrower

Question
I have a Craftsman Snow Thrower and I need to place the
gear assembly on it. The model number is 486.248401 but I
have not been able to find it on the Sears website under
that model number. I did find it at this location on the
Sears website though. http://c.sears.com/assets/own/24838e.pdf That is the manual
for my snow thrower. I have removed almost everything off
it but the ball bearing number 32 is stuck on the shaft. If
there are any tricks or hints to lossening or removing that
would be great. Also I can not seem to be able to remove
the spiral pins number 24 on the manual. I do not have
enough room to swing a hammer to knock the pins loose. I
have used heat and penetrating oil on both and it does not
seem to help. I have uploaded picture here http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y18/Drewsterritz/Craftsman
%20Snow%20Thrower/ if this helps at all. I am in need of
help very badly cause we are getting pounded by snow right
now. Thank you so much for your time!

Answer
Bearing is just seized on the shaft.  A bearing seperator can heal remove the bearing if you have room to use it.  Worst case is to cut the bearing races with disc grider and remove the bearing.  Of course you will have to replace the bearing.  Good pentrating oil, PB Blaster or Zepp Orange may aid with bearing removal.  WD-40 is not an acid base oil so is not a good penetrating oil.  Also, use some plummers sandpaper to remove any rust or burrs on the shaft.

If you get the bearing loose you should be able to remove the gearbox assembly.  This will provide access to the pins.

If new gearbox assemlby comes with the shaft, most do, I'd use a 4 1/2 inch grinder with a cut-off disc and cut off the old shaft to remove the gearbox/aguer assembly.  A smaller 3 inch air die grinder and cutt-off wheel will work as well.

Let me know if any of this helps.
