Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Snowblower Traction Cable, craftsman snowblower, traction drive

Question
QUESTION: I have a Craftsman snowblower model #536.887992 9 HP 29 inch.  While I was clearing the driveway today the traction drive stopped working.  I noticed that the traction cable was no longer connected to the handle.  If I pull up on the cable the snowblower will still move.  I can see where the cable is supposed to connect to the handle (based on looking at the connection for the auger cable on the other side), but the piece that goes on the end to keep the cable from sliding through again is gone- probably flew off somewhere in my lawn.  I would really appreciate any suggestions.  I'm not sure if you would suggest trying to find a replacement piece (looked around the internet with no success) or if there was another easy method of fixing the problem.  Thanks.

ANSWER: Hello Matt:

These Cables Cost Less than $10.00us and the Ends are Not Replaceable. I Suggest you Replace the Cable. The Sears Part Number for the Drive Cable is 1501123MA. QUESTION: John-
I received the cable in the mail, but it looks the same as the one that I currently have.  I was assuming that the new cable would come with a piece to put on the end that prevented it from slipping through the hole in the handle- a stop or something.  But the new cable looks similar to the one that I currently have.  I'm thinking that there's a separate piece that I'm missing.  Do you have any other thoughts on what I should do?  I considered the possibility of just using a welding gun to make the metal end of the cable thicker so it doesn't slip through the handle, but I don't want to run the risk of ruining the cable.  Thanks.
