Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 318 John Deere starter, 318 john deere, model numbers

Question
How do I remove the Bendix type starter from a 318 John Deere mower?  Do I have to remove the motor?

Answer
Hello Shekar:

You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers 318 and Click Find. Then Select your Model from the Search Results Area. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. On Some of these JD Mowers I have Found it Easier to Remove the Engine to Replace/Repair the Starter. On Some of the JD Models you can Unbolt, Turn and Lift the Engine Enough to Replace/Repair the Starter. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
