Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): CRAFTSMAN SNOW THROWER MODEL 247.886640, woodruff key, craftsman snow thrower

Question
THE GEAR THAT SHOULD TURN THE WHEELS SPINS ON THE SHAFT.IS THERE A KEY OR PIN ON THE GEAR THAT WILL MAKE THE SHAFT TURN.PLEASE HELP.MODEL 247.886640     THANKS   DICK.

Answer
Hello Dick:

Usually there is a Roll Pin or Woodruff Key that Holds the Shaft and Gear so the Gear Turns the Shaft. Some Models have the Gear Tack Welded to the Shaft. If there are No SIgns of Weld Tacks Showing on the Gear and Shaft, then Either a Roll Pin or Woodruff Key has Sheared and Requires Replacing. The Breakdown for this Unit Does Not Show a Good Picture of this Units Ground Drive Axle, so I cannot Say for Sure if this Unit has a Roll Pin or a Woodruff Key. To View a Breakdown of this Unit Go to this Site Addy, http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action?sid=PSHx20080114x00001 and Enter the Model Numbers 247.886640 and Click Search. From this Page you can View Diagrams and Parts Lists for you Equipment Using the "View Sub Components" Section Near the Bottom Left. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
