Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Murray Snowblower Auger problem, noma snowblower, murray snowblower

Question
QUESTION: Hi John,

I asked you some questions about my oooold Noma snowblower (aka Murray F2784-000). I went over a piece of chain link fence last season and the blade hasn't turned since. It doesn't move freely, but I don't know if there is a sheer pin that may have broken or something else I should be looking for.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!!

Paul

ANSWER: Hi Paul:

I Hope you and Yours are Doing Well. There are Several Shear Pins on this Unit. For the Blade Assembly there is Usually a Shear Bolt  where the Blade Connects to the Gear Box and there is a Shear Pin Inside the Gear Box that Holds the Worm Gear to the Shaft. The Gear Box May be in a Bind. I have Seen the Worm Gear and Ring Gear Bind and when the Cover is Removed from the Gear Box, they Free Up and the Unit Operates Fine Again. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck

QUESTION: Hi John,

Thanks for the reply! I brought the blower into my house to let it thaw, and when I try to turn the impeller, it causes the auger to move, but it still doesn't turn when started and engaged. so I don't think it's a shear pin between the impeller and auger. Is there suggestion, or another place to look behind the impeller? Do you know if it's easy to get to?

Answer
Hello Again Paul:

Thanks for the Comments and Ratings. I had the Time and Located a Breakdown of this Unit at this Site Addy; http://www.partsandservice.com/html/Murray/st/ and Scroll Down to your Unit Model F2784-000. Now Select it. Now you can Select Sections of the Unit to View Online. The Files are Not Marked what Section of the Snow Thrower you will View Until the File is Opened. Use the File #579941. Is the Drive Plate and the Driven Plate Connecting Properly? Is the Input Shaft of the Gear Box Turning?  Thanks.
