Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S carb throttle flap removal, float chamber, throttle plate

Question
I've a carb off a ride-on mower that needs the throttle spindle bushings replacing as it has 2mm of play (currently spitting flames out the exaust). Engine253707.
So, Ive undone the screw that holds the throttle flap to the spindle but it appears to be through a slot in the spindle and it seems that I when I try to remove the flap by pushing through the spindle slot in the direction of the choke/ air inlet it jams on the sides of the carb throat, as the carb is stepped slightly narrower just above the float chamber.
The throttle flap has a raised spot on the half which is on the choke side so I can't pull the flap through in direction of the engine.
Please , please tell me what I am missing here ?

Answer
Sometimes you need to remove the choke to get the throttle out my suggestion would be remove the chokes plate screws and then remove the chokes shaft than the throttle plate would slide out in the shaft could be removed.  Before doing all this be sure to bushings you are talking about are still available.  It would be a lot of work you can and get the parts.  I hope this information helps you out good luck on your project.
