Question
Model 28N707 Type 016601 code 9602284A Briggs & Stratton.
I am using this engine for another purpose than a lawn mower. If I am right I can disconect the ground wire from the coil and I should still get spark. There are also wires coming from the bottom of the carb. bowl is this the fuel shut off salinoid and can I bypass it. The charging system has two wires coming from under the fly wheel do these go to some sort of regulator or can I run the direct to the batt. through a key switch. Thanks

Answer
Hello Rob:

You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model (5 or 6 Digits) and Type Numbers (first 4 digits Only). Example: 28N707-0166. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Select Sectional Index. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. You are Correct about the Shut Off Wire. Simply Run a New Shut Off Wire to the Coil Lug and Ground the Wire to Shut Off the Fire to the Plug. The Carburetor Anti-Diesel Solenoid is Supposed to be Wired so it has Voltage when the Engine is being Started and Running and No Current when the Engine is Shut Off. One of the Wires from the Solenoid is a Ground and the Other is a Hot Wire. For the Stator, Use this; Most Stators can be Tested (and Wired) Using the Guide at the Following Site Addy; For Testing the Electrical (Charging) System on Mowers you can Use this Site Addy; http://faqs.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/faqs.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3438&p... and Use the Link for AC Volts/DC Amps Meter Setting Chart. This is for Briggs Engines and Works Well for Kohler and Other Engine OEMs. One of the Wires is Most Likely AC Current and the Other is DC Current. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
