Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): my Toro GTS 6.5hp does not start, cylinder head bolts, air filter assembly

Question
Hi,
My Toro GTS 6.5hp model #20026 does not start.  I changed the new spark plug, new gas, clean the filter.  I even took out the carb bowl and clean it.  It does start sometime after I primmed it, but it run for a while and stop.  Does not start now.  Please help.

Answer
First be sure you have good spark remove the spark plug reattach it to the spark plug wire lay it against the cylinder head and pull the starter cord and check for spark.  While you are working by the spark plug be sure the cylinder head bolts are snug and your head gasket is not leaking.  Check the flywheel key to be sure it is not sheared.  Replace it if damaged at all.  From there start at the fuel tank remove the fuel cap clean the vent.  Empty the fuel and back flush the tank where the fuel comes up.  Inspect fuel line to be sure it is not obstructed the collapsed.  Then remove the carburetor and completely disassemble it use a wire from a wire tie and clean all air and fuel passages blowout using carburetor cleaner or compressed air.  Reassemble the carburetor using a carburetor kit.  Reattach the carburetor using new mounting gaskets.  Lookup throttle and choke cables and install air filter assembly.  Fill with fresh fuel and give it a try.  If this does not fix your problem the next place to go would be valve clearance.  Remove the valve cover and use a feeler gauge check the valve clearance and Observe the operation.  I hope this information helps you out if you have anymore questions
