Answer
Whether it's a vertical shaft or horizontal shaft will be the first question the vertical shaft mowers are usually smaller frame mowers.  Z mowers with a horizontal shaft in the past have always been a large frame large deck mowers.  Choosing which one will be strictly up to you the quality of cut and quality of equipment should be about the same.  When question to ask will be what size trailer you have and what size properties you are mowing.

As far as engine brand I prefer a Kohler engine but that's just me.  If you are choosing between engine brands ask which one will be easily serviced in your area if you need parts or warranty work.  There are not many brands with the Honda engine.  Kawasaki is also a very good product and built in the United States in Missouri.  Briggs & Stratton's vanguard engine has been around for a long time and is used by many large commercial manufacturers.  Besides the mowers, they are used in vehicles such as a workman.

The question about gas or diesel would be best answered by what is used in your vehicle towing the mowers if it is a gas powered engine stay with gasoline but if it is a diesel you would have a choice at that point.  Diesel engines typically lasts longer than gasoline engines provided they receive good maintenance.  Again personally I would go with a Kubota diesel because of their reputation and ease of service and parts availability.

There are many brands and many colors available when you start talking about commercial mowers.  My situation again goes back to what is available in your market for parts and warranty service.  Building a relationship with a local dealer will pay many more dividends than saving a couple of dollars purchasing over the Internet.  I hope I've been able to answer your questions good luck with your new mower.
