Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh HM80 8 HP, flywheel, safeties

Question
Hi,  Getting no spark off the plug wire, I have cleaned the flywheel and ignition coil.  Now What??????  Please help...

Answer
If it has a small wire coming off the coil unplug it and try again. That wire is to ground your coil for the safety devices, by unplugging it your  by-passing all safeties, and shut offs. If you produce a spark now, check all your safeties. If still no spark your coil would need to be replaced. Remove the two bolts holding the coil, with the flywheel magnets faced away from the coil. Install your new coil, place a business card between the flywheel magnets, and the coil, allow the magnets to suck the coil into the business card between them, tighten the coil down, turn the magnets away, remove the card, your gap is now set. Just for safety turn the flywheel by hand to make sure nothing is hitting, and misaligned............Tom
PS. Only other thing it can be at this point is the flywheel itself, I have only seen 2 in 20 years be bad due to the fact the magnets lost their strength.
