Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Scotts 1642, Kohler engine c16s, jumper wire, key switch

Question
I have a 1998 Scotts riding lawnmower 16hp.  when Iturn the key it just klicks, the start works fine, could it be the stator, batter has a 13 volt charge,

Answer
If the solenoid clicks when you turn the key in the starter will not turn first check for groans be sure that your ground cable is thoroughly inspected and has good ground.

The other would be voltage drop in your start circuit.  Start at the solenoid on the small tabs and follow 12 V to each switch with the key in the run position.  12 V should go across each switch and on to the next with if you are losing voltage along the way.  You have unloose or corroded connection this path will take you from the battery to the PTOs switch to the seat switch to the key switch to the break/clutch switch and key switch and back to the solenoid.  I think somewhere along this troubleshooting path you will find your issue.  Another thing to try would be jumping the key switch.  Use a jumper wire to see if you can make the starter turn if you can replace the key switch I would start there.  I hope this information helps in which you good luck on your project.
