Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh 8 hp snow king engine surging, spec numbers, hp motor

Question
Hi. I have a snow blower with the Tecumseh snow king 8 hp motor. It ran fine last season. About a week ago when I was getting it all set up for this season, it kept on surging when it was running and would backfire once or twice a minute. It also will not run at much less than half throttle. I used to be able to lower the throttle way down to idle, then push it down about the last half inch to kill the engine. Now if I lower the throttle to much less than half way, the engine dies. I've cleaned the carb as best as I can, tried adjusting the settings, and removed/cleaned/regapped the plug but nothing has helped so far. Any ideas what the issue could be.

Thanks,

Steve

Answer
Hello Steve:

From your Description it Sounds like the Carburetor is Dirty and Requires Cleaning and/or Depending on the Model, the Valve Clearance May Require Setting. Is the Engine Smoking when Running? Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. Thanks.
