Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): briggs and strat 14.5 287707, briggs and stratton, ac volts

Question
i have a briggs and stratton 14.5hp 287707 engine. all the wires are shot. i dont want to buy new harness. how can i wire up the wires coming out of the motor so it will run. i have the wiring diagram for the starter but i need the instructions for the wire connected to the ignition coil, carbeuretor bowl, and the two coming out of the engine from behind the starter. i need to know what to do with them. i need to know which one is ground and which is hot... i am assuming the one running to the carbeuretor bowl is ground since it also bolts to engine block. i want to wire it up with a kill switch and not a key but i don't know which wires are what. i already have starter wired up but need to know the others.... thanks!

Answer
Hello Nathan:

The Ign Coil Wire is Grounded when te Ign Switch is in the Off Position Only. The Carburetor Solenoid is a Hot Wire when the Ign Switch is in the On Position. The 2 Wires coming Out from Behind the Starter are the Stator Wires. Most Stators can be Tested Using the Guide at the Following Site Addy; For Testing the Electrical (Charging) System on Mowers you can Use this Site Addy; http://faqs.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/faqs.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3438&p... and Use the Link for AC Volts/DC Amps Meter Setting Chart. This is for Briggs Engines and Works Well for Kohler and Other Engine OEMs. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Select the File # 28. Then Select the Folder # 287707. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
