Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Coleman Power Mate 5000, power mate, leak fuel

Question
I recently inherited a 10HP generator with a Tecumseh
engine, I took it to get the carburetor checked out. The
repair folks told me that they soaked it overnight and put
a carburetor kit on it, but that it was only running at
about 90%.  It starts fine however, it runs very rough, not
even at 80%, also after I kill it, gas continues to flow
through the carburetor and spills out into the air
breather. Any advice?

Answer
Yes, my advice would be to find another repair shop that knows what they are doing. If fuel is still continuing to flow through the carburetor, it was not rebuilt correctly, the needle valve is not seating as it should, thus not sealing off the fuel supply, and stopping the fuel from flowing. That is the purpose of it, the very same principle of your toilet float in the tank. After it is flushed the water refills the tank, as it does the pressure of the water under the float raises it, once the correct level is reached the float seals off the water supply, and maintains that level. Same thing in the carb. bowl. So if it is not running correctly, it's the same problem, it's running to rich ( Too much Fuel). This problem will be the culprit of both your problems, the rough running, and it continuing to leak fuel when off. Can't believe a shop would let a piece of equipment go out their doors running at 90%, find a new one!.................Tom
