Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere GT235 transmission drive belt, john deere gt235, belt pulley

Question
Hi, I have a 8 year old GT235 tractor with 18HP VTwin Briggs.  Tractor suddenly stopped moving while driving uphill.  I am hoping it is a bad drive to tranny and not a bad tranny.  Sound right?  I noticed belt pulley on transmission has play in it, and is even rubbing on transmission housing in one spot.  How do I remove tranny drive belt, pulley and plastic fan to replace?  Thank you!

Answer
Just to make it easier first remove your deck.  Then on, which ever side the belt runs remove the rear tire.  This will give you good access to the belt your talking about.  Remove the belt guides and then remove the belt.  Belt guides are used to hold the belt when not under tension.  Once the belt is off should be able to disengage your hydro-and freely turn the rear tires.  Check your break as long as you have it this far apart to be sure that is operating properly.  While you have the deck off now is a good time to grease the spindles and replaced the belt's needed.  I hope this information helps you out.
