Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Cleaning an old small engine, fuel outlet, winter thanks

Question
I have a Toro S-620 snow thrower that has not been used for over 4 years.  Can you provide some basic steps to clean and prepare the engine so that I can use it this winter.

Thanks,

Chris

Answer
First dump any fuel that was left in the tank then take the top and bottom shroud off the snow thrower.  Remove the carburetor and fuel line back flush the fuel tank through the fuel outlet.  You can use carburetor cleaner for this and compressed air.  Disassemble the carburetor and clean it thoroughly removing all the varnish use a wire from a twist tie clean out all the little passages.  Air and fuel.  Purchase a carburetor kit and new mounting gaskets.  Reassemble carburetor using kit.  Mount back on engine using new mounting gaskets hook up governor and choke.  If the fuel line is cracked replace it be sure the primer line is in good condition put fresh mixed fuel in the tank and it should be good to go.  I hope this information helps you.
