Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh 10 hp blowing oil, mtd snow blower, valve stems

Question
I just bought a 5 year old MTD snow blower with a Tecumseh 10 HP engine on it that blows oil out the valve breather tube.  I have replaced the head gasket, side case gasket, valve breather unit, and the connecting rod.  It was blowing oil when I got it so I replaced the head gasket and breather unit, but when I put the metal cover on that covers the carb it bound up the governor linkage...and that is why I needed to replace the rod and side cover.  It still starts right up and doesn't blow any smoke, but still blows oil out the tube coming from the valve breather unit.  If you let it sit there and run there will be oil running down the side of the machine.  When I had the engine apart I noticed the crank was a little worn where it goes through the case.  I have tried both SAE 30 and 10w 30 in the engine with no change.  Is it sucking air in the case somewhere and building pressure not a vacuum ?  I am out of ideas and am starting to think that the engine is just wasted.  Any help would be great.  model # HMSK 105  159908B

Hello Scott:

Did you Check the Valve Stems and Guides for Wear? If the Valve Stems or Guides are Worn, you will have the Problem you Described. Did you De-Glaze the Cylinder when the Piston was Out of the Block? Did you Replace the Rings? What is the End Gap Clearance of the Rings? Any of these as Well as the Components you have Replaced can Cause the Problem you Described. From your Description it Sounds like the Valve Stems or Guides are Worn and Require Replacing. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Hello Again Scott:

Thanks for the Comments and Ratings. The Reason for the Smoking, is you Failed to De-Glaze the Cylinder. Since this Unit is SLowly Starting to Stop Smoking; you may get by without De-Glazing. However, it will Take Longer for the Unit to Stop Using Oil even After it Stops Smoking. De-Glazing makes the Cylinder Wall Rough and Makes the Rings and Cylinder Seat (Match) Together and Form a Better Seal for Compression and Oil. Till Next Time. May All Your Mechanical Problems be SMALL ONES and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks Again.

Best Wishes and Good Luck
