Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 4.5 hp Tecumseh engine, leaf vac, vacuum leak

Question
I have a Craftsman Leaf Vac with a 4.5hp Tecumseh Engine.  The engine will not run if the leaf vac is level; however if I tilt it backwards (front end elevated), it appears to run fine.  As soon as it is horizontal, the engine sputters and quits.  Can you tell me what the problem might be?

Answer
Hello John:

From your Description it Sounds like, Depending on the Engine Model, the Fuel Pickup has a Hole in it (Tanks Mounted Cauburetor), The Engine May have Spring Style Hose Clamps and these are Allowing a Vacuum Leak (Models with a Fuel Pump) to the Fuel Pump. There are Many Possible Causes for this Problem Depending on the Model. Send me the Model and Type or Spec Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. The Sears Model Number will Usually Work Also. Thanks.
