Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S 15.5 IC gold riding mower sears, engine model type, crankcase oil

Engine turns 1/2 turn then hangs. Removed plug, engine turns over fine. Fuel was draining into cylinder and crankcase oil, rebuilt carb, no more leakage. Do you think the valves need adjusted, if so how. If not any suggestions.
It's been hard to start all last season (same problem.) but I could get it to start. Thanks for any and all help.

Remove the spark plug and crank the engine.  Since gas leaked into the crankcase there is probably some oil/gas in the cylinder causing the engine to hydrolic lock.

Cranking the engine with the spark plug removed should remove most fluid that may be in the cylinder.  Spraying some carb cleaner in the cylinder will help clean it out.

Did you change the oil?  Have you trickle charged the battery to a full charge state?

What is the engine model, type and code number?
