Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Breather tube oil leak, craftsman lawn mower, oil leaks

Question
My Craftsman lawn mower is leaking a lot of oil out of the breather tube everytime I use it. Is this repairable

Answer
Yes, typically when oil leaks from the breeder to its from excess pressure in the crankcase.  This is caused by an air leak.  The normal places are the oil fill and dipstick seals.  Next would be the gasket that separates the crankcase halves and the breeder gasket.  Be sure to remove the breather clean all the oil out of it and reinstall with a new gasket.  On some engines the gasket only goes one way be sure to check.

Another thing could be your carburetor overflowing into your crankcase.  You will notice this because your oil level is rising.  To repair this remove carburetor disassemble and clean.  Use a wire tie wire to clean all air and fuel passages blowout with carburetor cleaner or compressed air.  If the Main nozzle is removable don't forget it.  Purchase a carburetor kit and new mounting gaskets install all the parts reattach the carburetor using new mounting gaskets.  I hope this information has helped.
