Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ryobi Flywheel, compression tester, weed whacker

Question
Eric:

I have a Ryobi powered weed whacker that has a weak spark and is difficult to start.

Do you have a way to magnetize the flywheel magnets?

Regards,

Bob

Answer
I have never had any problems with flywheel magnets.  I have had a few coils with integrated timing advances fail but never weak magnet problems.

Sounds more like a compression or fuel problem.  Have you checked the compression with a compression tester?  You need a solid 110 psi to run correctly.

How old is the trimmer?  Is the fuel/oil mix less than 30 days old?  Is the spark plug brand new?
Let me know.
Eric
