Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Throttle builts up speed, twin grandsons, karting website

Question
Have a Go-Cart for twin grandsons 5 yrs old. Tucumseh engine 4 cycle..need to slow her way down...put a stop on throttle but it doesn't work..seems to built up speed.  How can I slow this down for now?

Answer
The Way to slow down the go kart is to change the size of the sprocket on the output shaft.  Or by changing pulleys if you have a belt drive.  I believe you could change clutches to do the same thing too.  I would check with a karting website.

Running the engine at a slower speed is not recommended.  The engine is an air cooled engine and operated at slow speeds it will become and run very hot.  This will fowl spark plu , and damage the engine.  You could look for a different governor spring at a Tecumseh dealer.  I hope this information helps.
