Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): J Deere LX 173 went under water, air filter oil, dash lights

Question
Courtesy of Hurricane IKE, my LX173 with 15 hp Koehler went under six feet of salt water.  I have drained oil and fuel tank.  I put six quarts in engine and let sit for two days and then drained.  I then replaced spark plug, fuel filter, air filter, oil filter and put in two quarts of oil.  I replaced battery and have dash lights but starter will not engage so I ordered a new starter.  What else could I do to possible salvage this mower?

Answer
My concerns would like with the transmission and blade spindle bearing, oh yeah and the clutch, belts....

It may be totaled.  I have only had a few units that were submerged, but that was fresh water.  Eventually we ended replacing the entire transmission but the total bill eventually cost as much as a new mower.

Does your transmission have a filter on it?

Let me know.
