Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): cam gear key, moon shape, cam shaft

Question
i purchased a simplicity 5216 had rebuilt engine did not run after some investigation i found that the lower key bottom of crank(for gear that drives cam shaft)  is sheared can i get new key or even get the old key out have other engine (blown up) and tired to get key out not moving any help     thanks scott

Answer
Hello Scott:

The Only Lower Key in the Crankshaft is the Blade Adapter Key. Have you Tried a Punch and Hit Down at and Angle Towards the Center of the Blade Adapter Key? This Key is of a Half Moon Shape and Requires One to Roll the Sheared Portion Out of the Crankshaft. The Cam is a Gear Driven Component and is Timed to the Gear on the Crankshaft Inside the Engine. You can View a Breakdown of this Unit at this Site Addy; http://www.simplicitytechpubs.com/techpubsearch.php?f_dsprslt=true&f_mfgno=16948... and Enter the Manufacturers Numbers in the Search Box at the Lower Left Side of the Page and CLick Search. Now Select View PDF for the "Parts Manual." If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
