Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda Mower Transmission, honda mower, arinet

Question
I have a Honda HRT216SDA and  pulling the mower backwards the rear wheels will nor turn. I have seen this problem in a lot of forums but have not found the answer that I need. Why do the wheels lock up? What part of the tran is involved? This mower will drive forward so the tran is not frozen. The rear wheels just will not turn when the mower is dragged back.

Answer
Hello Jack:

From your Description it Sounds like the Wheel Ratchets are Sticking. I Suggest you Remove the Wheels, Clean and Lubricate the Wheel Ratchet Assemblies. Be Sure to Check the Ratchet Return Spring and Key. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower/Engine at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram... and Select the Catalog American Honda. Also, Once you Release the Traction Drive; Push the Mower Forward a Small Distance (3 to 4 inches) and Usually the Wheel Ratchets will Release. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
