Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Lawn Tractor 17.5 HP B &S Engine, craftsman lawn tractor, crankcase pressure

Question
It will only turn over after you pull the plug and crank it and oil/gas spits out. When the engine finaly starts it spits oil/gas out of the carburetor. Someone said it  might be the breather clogged? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Mark

Answer
You have an overflowing carburetor.  You will need to remove the carburetor and install a new carburetor kit.  Be sure to clean all air and fuel passages with a wire from a twist tie or tag wire.  Blow out with carburetor cleaner or compressed air.  Remote the carburetor using new gaskets.  Drain the oil from the crankcase and be sure you do not have an air leak.  This will cause positive crankcase pressure in the engine will pump oil through the breather.  Remove the breather and be sure, it is not full of oil if it is clean or replace it using a new gasket.  Check the oil filled to and stick for air leek.  Inspect the crankcase gasket to be sure, oil is not leaking their.

When you get the engine started you will get a lot of smoke just let the engine run and it will burn out.  The muffler made  drip  black oily residue but it should clear up in time.  I hope this helped.
