Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Electrical, craftsman riding mower, stator

Question
I have a craftsman  riding mower  mod 917.257645 15.0 horsepower b$s engine.  A wire is loose that apperars to connect somewhere under the gear ring.  The battery does not charge.  Question is does this wire charge the battery and does it prevent the engine from starting. Do you have to pull the gear ring to mend the wire.

Thanks   Wes

Answer
Depending upon system visit wire that charges the battery or runs another part of the electrical system.  yes, you have to remove the flywheel to get at the stator.  The stator producers AC voltage that has to be converted to DC voltage to charge the battery or run any part of your electrical system this will require a diode or a rectifier/regulator depending on how complex your own electrical system is.  The first thing to find is the schematic for your tractor and check the routing of the wires.  You will need of VOM meter to repair your tractor.  If the wire is pulled out of the stator you will have to replace the stator.  I hope this helps.
