Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Cub Cadet drifts when foot is taken off the gas, electro magnet, cub cadet 2165

Question
My Cub Cadet 2165 continues forward (drifts) when you take you foot off the gas. I have tied the cruise control fully back to eliminate this problem. Now I can't use the cruise control; however, I have stopped hitting the fence and trees.

Answer
Put the tractor up on jack stands.  Find the motion control rod that goes to the transmission.  There should be an adjustment at one end or the other or both.  Threaded rod, trunion, etc.  Start the engine and put it in neutral.  Adjust the rod until the wheels just start to turn in reverse.  Tighten all fastness.

The cruise control is usually an electro magnet.  It holds the motion control lever open.  If it is out find it and test with 12 volt battery.  Hook the battery to it and it should engage.  If not replace the switch.
