Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): air cap master cut, set screw, air cap

Question
I'm trying to remove the engine from the mower but the upper plate that holds the blade in place is giving me a really hard time. I can't figure out how to get it off! Any help would be awesome. Thank
you, -Jeremy

Answer
One thing you did not mention is, is this a blade brake clutch model.  If it is there are two parts to the blade retention one will be attached to the blade and one will be attached to the crankshaft they will have to be removed separately

If this is not a blade brake clutch model in the blade is attached to the crankshaft with the blade adapter it may be due to corrosion and rust.  Try soaking the entire thing with WD-40 spray it down until it is saturated.  With the oil of the crankcase and the gas out of the gas tank every so often The adapter with a hammer and then spray it s'more.

Get it three job poller put the ball in the crankshaft or the not on the crankshaft and use the poller to pull the adapter do not hammer on the crankshaft threads.  Thoroughly clean the adapter and be sure there is not a hidden set screw.

I hope this helps good luck on your project
