Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs engine/high wheel trimmer, throttle cables, throttle plate

Question
bought this machine on 2007, warranty expired 2 months ago.
Problem: throttle cable broke and replaced with new one; this one also can apart, I opened it and repaired it. since then the idle is very high exceeding the limit it was set to. how do I adjust the idle? I tried moving the cable in different positions and it either runs extremely fast or when in the off position linkage won't reach to short out the engine and turn off.

Answer
The new cable you purchased should have a warranty on it also provided you purchased original parts.  Throttle cables are typically solid wire inside of a casing.  The way it works is the casing is held in place and the solid wire moves back and forth.

To adjust remove the cable from the carburetor allow the carburetor to come to a normal self adjust typically that is idle.  Put the throttle control lever in the slow or idle position attached the solid wire to the carburetor and then attach the casing.  This should resolve your problem be sure the throttle cable is attached to the throttle plate.

Good luck on your project.
