Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman 7.0 self propelled lawn mower, briggs straton, self propelled lawn mower

Question
i have a briggs & straton 7.0 hp lawn mower. craftsman self propelled. i can start it up in 1-2 pulls no problem. after mowing a small yard if i stop mowing, stop the mower then try to restart it i am not able to.... any idea wht the problem is... lawn mower is about 4 yrs old..

Answer
First thing to find out is are you losing spark the way to do this is after mow your yard try to restart the mower if it does not start have an extra spark plug available remove the spark plug wire from the spark plug in the engine, attach it to the  spark plug and check for spark under compression while the engine is hot. If you do not have spark needed your ground wire is defective, it could be a loose connection or your coil is breaking down when it's hot. Usually the laminations separate causing a break in the field. You would have to replace the coil.

If you have spark it is fuel related. Check the fuel cap vent if it is not operating replace the fuel cap. Next would be the air filter if Turkey were gasoline soaked replace it. If you have a choke position on the throttle try both positions. First after mowing choke the engine to start next you would have to mow your grass again to check it while not choked. The reasoning is once you try to start the engine with the choke I it changes the baseline for trying to find the issue each addition has to be tried separately. Next, while the engine is warm. I think you will find your problem along the way

. Good luck on your project
