Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 2000 John Deere LT133 with Kohler 13HP engine, john deere lt133, bolts and nuts

While mowing, the mower deck suddenly dropped, scalping the lawn, and then the mower engine killed in short order. When I put the mower up on blocks to take a look, I couldn't see how the mower height control knob and lift lever hook up to the deck, but when I tried changing levels, suddenly everything seems to be working again. What is going on, and can I expect this to happen again?

The deck height adjuster could have popped out of place causing the deck to lower.  Did you check the bolts and nuts to be sure they are tight?  Is there any side to side play in the cutting height adjusment system?  Are there any shoulder bolts that might be wore?
