Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): no fire, kawasaki engine, john deer

Question
I have a john deer model lx178 while mowing the lawn i lost spark I have replaced the igniter and both spark plugs but still have no fire at the plugs

Answer
Chances are what you need is the "Time off relay"...It holds back the voltage from the coil at timed intervals to allow the coil to build enough power to develop a high voltage spark at the spark plug (20,000-30,000 kv) with out this delay it will never be able to build a suitable spark to fire across he electrodes. it's usually about $20.00 from Deere. Mind you I am assuming with your failure to furnish me with the asked for engine model numbers, and serial numbers it is either a Kohler, or Kawasaki engine.......Tom

Why on earth did I deserve the poor ratings in the area of politeness, and clarity of my answer? I went to great length to give you a full explanation, as well as was very polite.......Tom

Once again someone asking a question being unable to follow simple directions for furnishing me with the proper model numbers, and serial numbers, costs me ratings. John Deere is notorious for installing 3 different engines on their chassis, Kohler, Kawasaki, and Briggs & Stratton.......Different years different engines. I simply suggested a part that has been used for a number of years now that's common to your problem, had you been smart enough to follow my simple directions I would have been able to pinpoint the engine. I simply take time out of my busy day each day to try and help people save a few dollars, educate them in small engines, and feel I'm doing something good for people each day. The time I use to do this is usually at my shop, where those people are paying $75 per hour fees for the same answers you get for free. So for that reason we sometimes have to generalize our answers. We simply don't have the time to sit and spend endless hours researching each question to the end. I gave you that answer 2 days after replacing one on a LT178!! Obviously a different year, and the purpose , and need of having the correct numbers.........Tom
