Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): craftsman5000 with kohler 25 horse, mud dobbers, mud daubers

Question
after sitting for three yrs, this mower which was used 2 seasons prior and ran great was moved to my new home.now when you try to start it ,the only way to get it to run is by pouring gas in front of carb.it seems to be getting gas to the float bowl, but will not run on its own gas.will run great as long as you are pouring your own gas in.the only thing i have to think is that the key switch was nested with the wasp as we call mud dobbers.is the switch connected to the actual float or something.i noticed a wire hooked to the bottom of the float.thank you

Answer
Danny,

Clean the switch off Mud Daubers are a nuisance Here in the Midwest as well But the Problem is your Carb needs a rebuild Its Not getting fuel up thru the needle valve Craftsman should be able to warranty that repair for you if not try taking it to a professional shop.
the wire in the float assy is not part of the Ignition system it is there as Part of the float and needle valve assy
Try removing all the mud from the contacts and try it out but if that will not work then try checking to see if Maybe you somehow got dirt or debris in the fuel line itself sometimes it allows a minor amount of fuel thru but clogs Up the full flow
