Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda V twin 24 horse motor, dixie chopper, carburetor

Question
Hi Howard,
I have a relatively new Honda V twin 24 horse motor on my Dixie Chopper lawn mower, it will start with the choke, run for a few seconds then flood it self and die. Usually it will not start again till it dries out, and then dies again after a few seconds of running. Any ideas on what the problem might be, and the difficulty in repairing it?
Thanks,
Ralph

Answer
Hey Ralph,

It sounds like there's a setting not right with either the carburetor or the governor.

Obviously, you should not be experiencing a  "flooding out" after a few minutes of running your machine.  Possibly the carburetor is set so that it runs too rich & extra fuel can not be used fast enough.

I would inquire with the (a mechanic) from the shop you purchased the unit, & see if they can help you solve this problem.

I hope this information is helpful.
