Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): MTD lawn tractor wont engage, mechanic shop, mtd lawn tractor

Question
I have an MTD lawn tractor lot/model# is 132-669G205/J251H2. Serial# H  000743 92 2. The problem is that it won't engage in forward or reverse. When it is in park and neutral the drive belt is tight. When I put it in 1 thru 6 gear the belt becomes very loose and spins on the pulleys. I checked the pulleys and they seem fine with the belt rounding each one. What do you think?

Answer
From what I am hearing your belts may need a size adjustment

Usually Over time and use the clutch does wear some causing this type of issue with drive engagement If you can engage the clutch/Brake and the belts loosen from the main drive severely then you know to re-adjust your clutch spring sometimes over time the belts loosen enough to disengage the transmission drive.

A Typical example since you cant ride and watch at the same time.
When your In Neutral the drive belt should be loose on the engine pulley same as in park,  When you engage the drive the belt tightens around the pulley thus turning the belt and causing the energy to transfer to your transmission.
It is possible that your Transmission is the culprit in this case Have your local tractor Mechanic shop look at the tranny Chances are the main Drive gear that causes the transmission to engage is worn and needs to be replaced.
Your Belts are Placed Correctly Pulleys are as well your issue is from the rear drive not the front
