Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman lift link replacement, craftsman lt1000 lawn tractor, model tractor

Question
Hi David
I have a Craftsman LT1000 lawn tractor Model 917-272760 and I broke off the lift link trying to level the deck. I ordered a new one from Sears and was wondering the easiest way to replace it. I really didn't want top take the deck off if possible. Can you help

Answer
In any shop work I have done with any model tractor removing the deck is about the safest way to do it right.
I know you dont want to pull the deck But in this case your going to have to regardless.
Reason for this is simple Safety First
to reduce the strain and the chances of snapping the other leveler off clean taking the stress off it is very important I wish there was an easier way of telling you to do this job but unfortunatly any repairs being made to any deck remember always remove the deck to reduce the risk of damaging another part thus getting you an even costlier part replacement.
you could however lower the deck as low as you can get it by placing all 4 tires on single 4 x 4 blocks making sure to set the Brake before beginning and then lowering the deck even farther but keep in mind if your deck is off the ground when you lower to the max setting place a block at the front and rear of your deck and lower it till the deck is resting on the wood and replace your part that way make sure the weight of your deck is on the 2 wood blocks to reduce the strain on your leveler and the mounts
I hope this helps you in replacing your leveler
