Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Concrete Saw recoil starter, stihl saws, recoil starter

Question
Having trouble re-installing the recoil in the starter of a Stihl concrete saw. Its different than for other recoils I've installed for lawn trimmers, lawnmovers.  How do I do it? Joe.

Answer
Joe,

when you get the recoil wound down as tight as required I use wide Jaw Vise Grips for the next step clamp the vice grips or even a c-clamp works down on the recoil and the housing not overly tight we dont want to crack the housing.
then feed your rope into the hole from the outside of the housing  after you have the rope in the spindle and you insert the center screw into the assembly hold the whole thing down until he clamp is removed and then slowly allow the line to recoil in fully.
Place the housing on the saw pull the rope slightly to seat it.
put the screws into the housing and give it a try
remember dont overly crank the coil down this will cause the recoil to pull way to fast and it will eventually snap the rope causing you to do it all over again you want a moderate recoil back action.
Stihl Saws are a bit more complex but they have the basic same principals as a chainsaws recoil.

P.S. Model Numbers Often help In assisting with repairs this way I know exactly how it is done on a particular Model
