Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere R72 ride on lawnmower, briggs and straton, shaft sizes

I have this lawnmower w/ 8hp Briggs and Straton 190707 type 5830. They dont make a repalcement engine at B and S  Do you know of any engines make or model that will fit on this lawnmower.I'm taking the engine off and would rather replace than rebuild

  Your right that series Engine was discontinued about 4 years ago But the JD R72 was Engine type sepcific for a few years but you can go to a 8.5Hp or 10.0HP of the same type shaft mounting of B&S engines and still have the same bolt down pattern and shaft lengths.
But be sure to take in the shaft sizes when you go to buy the new motor this way there is no mistaking the belt drive fittings.
I would suggest that and try to get a drawing of the rear mounting bolt pattern for the replacement engine to make sure the bolts will line up  from past upgrades any 8.5 and 10 will interchange with the old 8's bolt patterns.
Try taking a shot at looking in the home and garden sections of ebay for these engines you can buy them alot cheaper new from there then in a retail dealership
