Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda WT20X 5.5HP engine., honda engine, slow speeds

Question
My Honda engine just got a new carb and runs great, but when I try to Rev it to full RPMs it just won't go over maybe 1400 RPMs. My lawn mower store told me it was the governor. They say the governor was tuned down for slow speeds. I was wondering how to adjust the Governor?

              Thank you

Answer
Before you go messing with the governor let me ask you, did it have this same low idle before the carb replacement? If not something during the reassembly isn't correct. These governors are preset at the factory to correct specs. I never believe it is a smart move to alter them. They are designed to run right where they are set at. Start messing with this adjustment and you sometimes will never get it right again.......Tom

I really do believe there is something not correct in the throttle linkage, cable, or governor spring and linkage. 1400 rpm is very low, it should be closer to 3000rpm's...I don't believe Honda would have set them this low. Not to mention governors never go much out of adjustment if any when they are not touched. Please furnish me with the correct engine model and type and I can investigate further for you and maybe supply diagrams if needed. The model you furnished doesn't match my resources. You may have to reach me back using a new post.........Tom
