Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 12.5 kawasaki gx95, Engine no-start

Question
My johndeere won't start after I shut it off when its hot. I use regular gas without ethanol. Now it won't start at all. I am planning on replacing the plug to fix the cold starting problems but the hot start is a very big problem.

Answer
Hi Greg,

I will first start with what you first mentioned, that the machine doesn't start after working and it's hot.
1. Check that all controls are positioned properly. ie. the throttle should be completely open & the choke should function when it's set on start.
2.  Check to make sure the gas tank is full or 1/2 full.
3.  Check plug wire is not loose or kinked.
4.  Check your spark plug ground strap.
5.  Check engine priming device.
6.  Check that the Fuel tank gas cap vent isn't clogged up.
7.   Check the air filter, see if it's clean & unobstructed.
8.  Re-check the spark plug and ensure it is gapped correctly (manufacturer's recommendations).  Clean electrodes with wire brush, & use a fine file to square the edges.  Generally spark plugs gaps average around .025".
9.  Check if plug is firing properly.(use a good Spark tester)
10 Ensure that the plug wire is not damaged.
11. Check the choke & ensure it's working properly.

Once you've completed the above list of checks you should have a better idea of what you are dealing with...Good luck with that problem, and let me know the outcome.

Howard
